The disc filter is utilized for the microfiltration of municipal and industrial wastewater to remove suspended solids during the tertiary treatment stage. It provides comprehensive filtration and removal of both total suspended solids (TSS) and phosphates.
Design and Operating Principle
Water enters the central drum, from where it is distributed by gravity through apertures in the drum wall to the filter discs. Due to the head differential between the inside and outside of the discs, the liquid permeates through the filter cloth, which retains solids exceeding the pore size while allowing the filtrate to pass. The gradual accumulation of contaminants on the cloth increases its hydraulic resistance.
The filter discs consist of cassettes with frames over which the filter cloth is tensioned. The passages between cassettes are separated by thin baffles that ensure unobstructed fluid flow. The filter elements are securely fixed within the cassettes using patented solutions that provide disc rigidity and stability while simplifying maintenance and reducing costs.
When the water level in the drum reaches a critical setpoint, signaling increased filter resistance, an automatic backwash cycle is initiated without interrupting the filtration process. High-pressure nozzles direct a spray of wash water onto the cloth to remove accumulated contaminants, utilizing the filtrate extracted by an integrated pump.
Particles washed off the filter cloth are collected in a reject water trough located inside the drum. From there, the contaminated water is discharged via an outlet pipe, effectively removing captured particles from the system. The filter discs are approximately 60% submerged, while the exterior filtrate level remains constant, contributing to stable and efficient filter operation.
The filters are available in two configurations: as a standalone unit with its own tank or as a model for integration into a channel or basin, facilitating implementation into existing systems.
Nearly all filter components are recyclable, reflecting a commitment to sustainable development and environmental responsibility.
The filter is designed to operate with coagulants and polymer flocculants, enhancing suspended solids removal efficiency and improving filtrate quality.
